ARMOR SHINGLE ROOF COATING

The coating is designed to seal leaks in shingles due to old age, most leaks occur when the shingles become porous due to age and UV damage. When this happens, it seems like no matter how hard you try to find the leak, you can't. It's because water is seeping right through your shingles and running underneath to the first opening it gets to and then leaks into your home. ArmorGarage shingle sealer will seal the open pores and pinholes in your shingles.

It will also prevent further loss of granules (another cause of leaks), restore some of the faded color back to your shingles, extend the useful life of newer shingles, and preserve older shingles from further deterioration.

It is designed to last 7–10 years when two coats are applied. When needed, you simply apply another single coat that will bond to the original coating — extending and preserving the life of your shingles further.

Depending on the quality, age, and condition of the shingles when you apply the coating, it can extend the life cycle by up to 10 or more years.

Please note: If you waited too long and your shingles are cracking, curled up, and all or most of the granules have worn off, it’s really too late for a coating. Our coating cannot bring your shingles back from the dead.

Yes. Armor Shingle Roof Coating is formulated with UV-stable resins that resist fading and degradation from sun exposure, helping to maintain color and protective properties for the full life of the coating.

It can help. The coating creates a sealed, reflective layer over the shingles that can reduce heat absorption, particularly with lighter colors. While results vary depending on roof orientation, climate, and insulation, many customers report a noticeable improvement in attic temperatures during summer months.

No. This coating is not designed to cure ice dam leaks, and we know of no shingle coating that is. Ice dams are a structural and insulation issue that must be addressed at the attic level.

No. That is a shingle and improper installation issue that cannot be corrected via a coating. The only way to solve that with a coating would be to apply an elastomeric-type coating to encapsulate the shingles — but you will most likely create a more serious problem of trapping moisture in your roof since elastomerics will not let the roof breathe properly.

Many customers have told us they solved this problem by placing a bead of silicone or construction adhesive under the shingles and then applying the coating over the shingles.

No. Armor Shingle Roof Coating cannot correct structural, installation, or faulty shingle issues. If your roof has an improper pitch, the underlying problem must be addressed by a contractor before any coating is applied.

We do not recommend applying over an existing elastomeric coating. Elastomerics trap moisture and create adhesion challenges for other coating types. The elastomeric coating should be removed before applying Armor Shingle Roof Coating. Contact us if you’re unsure about your existing roof coating type.

It can be applied by roller, hand pump garden sprayer, or airless sprayer in two coats. The hand pump garden sprayer is the most popular method and works great for most homeowners.

Apply when temperatures are between 50°F and 90°F with no rain expected for at least 24 hours after application. The roof surface should be completely dry. Avoid applying in direct midday sun on extremely hot days, as this can cause the coating to dry too quickly and reduce adhesion.

Yes. The roof must be free of dirt, debris, moss, mildew, and loose granules. We recommend washing the roof with a mild solution of TSP powder mixed with water sprinkled over the shingles and then thoroughly rinsed with a garden hose. Allow the roof to dry completely before coating. We do not recommend power washing, as this can remove granules and damage the shingles. Any damaged or missing shingles should be repaired or replaced before application.

For mold or mildew, treat with bleach or chlorine solution first before washing with TSP.

Once the roof is clean and dry, patch any visible cracks and holes around any roof penetrations with a non-silicone paint-compatible caulk. Never use silicone; once applied, it cannot be reapplied, and coatings will not stick to silicone.

Two coats are required for full protection and to achieve the 7–10 year lifespan. Allow the first coat to dry to the touch completely (2-4 hours) before applying the second coat. A single maintenance coat can be applied years later when and if needed.

Allow the coating to dry fully before walking on it — typically 24–48 hours depending on temperature and humidity. Walking on uncured coating can leave marks and reduce performance in those areas.

Important: You cannot simply measure the footprint of your house — you must account for the roof pitch, which adds significant area. The steeper your roof, the more surface area it has.

Step 2: Multiply by the pitch multiplier from the table below to get your actual roof surface area.

Step 3: Check the product coverage rate on the listing page and order enough for two full coats.

Example: A house with a 30 × 40 ft footprint = 1,200 sq ft. With a 6/12 pitch: 1,200 × 1.118 = 1,342 sq ft of actual roof surface.

If you don’t know your roof pitch, a 6/12 or 7/12 multiplier is a safe estimate for most residential homes. When in doubt, order slightly more than you think you’ll need — it’s better to have extra than to run short mid-application. Any extra material can be sprayed on as a third layer where most needed.
