Please note that if your tiles are from the 50s or 60s its a good bet that they are asbestos tiles and the mastic used contains asbestos. We strongly recommend and urge you not to remove the tiles or mastic yourself. You should have a professional properly remove any materials containing asbestos. Even better is to not disturb the tiles or mastic, fill in any missing tiles with new VCT tiles available everywhere and then encapsulate the entire floor with one of our Epoxy Basement Kits. Be sure to prime first with the Special Primer to ensure a proper bond.
Removing VCT Tiles is the easy part! Getting rid of the Mastic is the real job that is often a nightmare. Chemical removers work great when they work but some Mastics are immune. We now have a tool that you can attach to a standard floor buffing machine that will remove Mastic and Adhesives! Floor buffers are easy and cheap to rent. Makes the job quick and easy and does a much more thorough job than chemical removers.
