Waterproof Coating For Roof, Decks & Balconies
The ArmorTop waterproof base coat is our super tough epoxy rubber coating. Apply this to your outdoor wood or concrete roof deck. This is the proper and easy way to waterproof and coat your roof deck. Our four step system is less work with no fabric liner needed and no prior experience needed to apply. No primer is needed when using this base coat.
Wood surfaces should be rough sanded clean, outdoor wood or marine grade plywood should be used along with proper roof construction techniques. Pressure treated wood should be aged at least 6 months before coating over. Concrete surfaces should be acid etched clean, see our acid etching kit to make the job easier.
Next all seams and joints need to be sealed with our Seam Mastic and standard nylon roof mesh available at any home improvement store or hardware store. Simply spread the mastic over the seams or joint then embed a strip of the mesh into the mastic and apply another coat of mastic over the mesh. Joints between a deck and a structure should have a cant strip installed, apply a generous amount of mastic at the joint, embed the cant strip, cover cant strip with mastic spreading the mastic at least 4" onto the deck and 4" onto the structure. Then embed roof mesh over cant strip(see the Mastic Product Page for Cant Strip explanation) and extending onto deck and onto the structure. So that the cant strip, deck and wall are covered by the mesh and mastic. Then apply final coat of mastic over the entire roof mesh surface. Now you have a flexible and waterproof joint. Allow mastic to dry for 24-48 hrs(thicker applications may take longer to fully cure).
Once the mastic has completely dried, it should be hard to the touch, you can now apply the first coat of the waterproof base coat. This is is easily done with a good quality 3/8" nap roller. Be sure to cover the entire surface including all areas with mastic. Allow first coat to dry 24hrs and then apply the second coat. Be sure to coat under any overhangs.
Do not apply if rain is forecasted within 24 hrs or if temperature is below 45 degrees.
Coverage is 100 SF/gal and two coats should be applied. To determine the number of pails needed, divide your square footage by 250 and that will be the amount of 5 gallon pails needed. Always buy a little extra to allow for some absorption of the material into the surface.
Allow 48 hrs for dry time and then two coats of ArmorTop can be applied.
IT'S ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA IF POSSIBLE TO DO A GARDEN HOSE TEST OF THE ROOF PRIOR TO APPLYING THE ARMORTOP.
