The thick epoxy formula self-levels into small nicks and hairline cracks, leaving a smooth, uniform surface.
βœ”
First-Timer Friendly
Complete kit with everything you need. No prior experience required. Just follow the included step-by-step instructions.
β˜…
Coat Over Existing Surfaces
With our bonding primer, apply directly over old VCT tiles, paint, or other coatings without ripping anything out.

Real Results: VCT Tile to Showroom Floor

The before and after images on this page show a basement floor that was covered in old VCT tiles. Looking at the before image, you would never imagine the floor could turn out so beautiful. Two coats of our proprietary bonding primer and one coat of basement epoxy stuck to it like glue — creating a seamless, high-gloss finish that completely transformed the space.

That’s the power of the bonding primer. It creates a permanent chemical bridge between dissimilar surfaces — old tile, paint, or bare concrete — and our epoxy. No demolition, no grinding, no mess. Just prime and coat.

Important: Moisture Check Before You Start

This kit is designed for DRY basements only. If you have moisture coming up through the slab from underneath, do not use this epoxy kit. Moisture pushing through the concrete will prevent proper adhesion and cause the coating to fail. Surface moisture from above (spills, humidity) will have no effect on the epoxy.

How to Test Your Slab for Moisture

Duct tape a 4’ × 4’ piece of plastic sheeting to the slab, sealing all four sides completely. Let it sit for a minimum of 24–48 hours. If moisture is present under the plastic when you peel it up, your slab has a moisture problem and you need the wet basement kit instead.

Have moisture in your slab? No problem — our Wet Basement Epoxy Floor Kit is specifically formulated to handle moisture vapor transmission from below the slab. Same great finish, engineered for wet conditions. For floor with very high water tables and high moisture pressure see our article on Why Garage Floor Tiles are your best option.

Epoxy Floor Coating Application Instructions

Follow each step carefully for best results. Product and floor slab temperature must be above 50Β°F.

1

Surface Preparation β€” Cleaning & Etching

Remove any oil or grease stains with a degreasing agent. It’s critical to get the floor completely clean so no foreign substances interfere with the epoxy bonding to concrete. Repeated cleanings may be necessary.

Acid Etch Method: Mix 1 gallon muriatic acid per 400 sq ft of floor area β€” combine 3 gallons water to 1 gallon acid. Brush in with a stiff bristle broom, let stand 5–10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with clean water. Sprinkle 1 lb TSP powder evenly over the etching solution right before rinsing and lightly scrub in. Rinse thoroughly. Allow floor to dry completely β€” minimum 48 hours.
No Drain / No Acid Etch Option: Rent a Floor Prep Machine from Home Depot and run it over the floor like a buffer. Get the vacuum attachment if available β€” it’s important to remove all dust from the floor.
2

Mixing the Epoxy

If you ordered more than one kit, first mix each of the Part A’s together to blend colors evenly. Once Part A’s are blended, mix Part A and Part B together with the power mixer in your drill for 3 minutes, making sure the mixer produces a good vortex (do not mix at high speed). Mix in a 2:1 ratio β€” 2 parts A to 1 part B.

Move the mixer up, down, and side to side until the color is even throughout the batch with no streaks in the liquid mix.

DO NOT MIX ALL THE EPOXY AT ONCE! Mixed epoxy starts to harden in about 40 minutes. We recommend mixing 80 oz of Part A & 40 oz of Part B per batch.
ComponentPer BatchRatio
Part A (Resin)80 oz2 parts
Part B (Hardener)40 oz1 part
Pot Life~40 minutes once mixed
Be careful to adhere to the 2:1 ratio. Improper mixes will cause the epoxy not to harden or result in small sticky spots which are not covered under the guarantee.
3

Applying the Epoxy

Once mixed, pour a bead of epoxy across the floor β€” do not use a roller pan. Use the squeegee to spread the epoxy out evenly. Make sure not to leave any thick puddle areas. Don’t worry about squeegee marks β€” they will self-level as the epoxy cures.

You may want to cut in along the walls with a quality brush before squeegeeing the main floor area. Continue until the floor is completely coated.

Dry Time: The epoxy should be hard to the touch in approximately 10–14 hours depending on temperature and humidity.
4

White Epoxy β€” Primer Required

If using white, you will have a primer in addition to the white epoxy. Mix the primer in a 1:1 ratio (1 part A to 1 part B) and roll onto the floor as you would conventional paint. Let dry hard to the touch (should not leave any fingerprints), then apply epoxy as stated above.

5

VCT Tiles β€” Special Instructions

Tile TypeInstructions
Non-Asbestos Tiles (Removing)Remove tiles, apply two coats of Bonding Primer to the black mastic, allow to dry 24 hours, then apply epoxy.
Non-Asbestos Tiles (Keeping)Strip clean of any wax or dirt, apply two coats of Bonding Primer, allow to dry 24 hours, then apply epoxy.
Asbestos TilesDO NOT remove or sand β€” this releases dangerous particles. Strip clean of wax and dirt, apply two coats of Bonding Primer, let dry 24 hours, then apply epoxy. Tiles are now fully encapsulated.
6

Applying Color Flakes (If Applicable)

Apply flakes immediately after you finish applying the epoxy in each section. We recommend working in sections no more than 4 feet deep to make dispersing the chips into the wet epoxy easier.

Toss small amounts up into the air at a 45-degree angle from your body and let the chips float down randomly. Don’t toss too many at once β€” better to apply a little at a time so the chips form a nice, even pattern. Complete one section, then mix and apply epoxy to the next section and repeat.

7

Topcoat Application

Once the epoxy has dried to a rock-hard finish (10–14 hours), vigorously brush the chips to remove any loose or standing-up chips from the floor.

Mix topcoat gently in can. If your floor will be wet, add 1 pack of non-skid powder per gallon and stir well. If the floor will not be wet, you can omit the non-skid additive. Pour into a roller pan and roll on one even clear coat. Keep stirring the can to keep non-skid particles suspended.

Topcoat Dry Time: 4–6 hours.
