Waterproof Coating System For Roof Decks & Balconies
Our Waterproof Roof Deck System is easy to apply to your outdoor wood, tiled or concrete roof deck. This is the proper and easy way to waterproof and coat your roof deck for years of leak free service. Our three step system is less work with no fabric liner needed and no prior experience needed to apply. Don't take a chance on your interior space being ruined by cutting corners. Most residential grade products will fail within the second year of service. ArmorGarage is the only guaranteed system to solve your leaking roof deck whether is wood, concrete or tiled with ceramic or porcelain tiles.
Wood surfaces should be rough sanded clean, free of any Mil finishes, sealers or adhesives. Outdoor wood or marine grade plywood should be used along with proper roof construction techniques. Pressure treated wood should be aged at least 6 months before coating over. Concrete surfaces should be acid etched clean with no visible contaminants, see our acid etching kit to make the job easier.
Next all seams and joints need to be sealed with our Seam Mastic and standard nylon roof mesh available at any home improvement store or hardware store. Simply spread the mastic over the seams or joint then embed a strip of the mesh into the mastic and work into the mesh with the serrated side of a rectangle trowel and then apply another thin coat of mastic over the mesh to encapsulate it. Do not put too much mastic on, just enough so you don't see the mesh is best. Joints between a deck and a structure should have a cant strip( available at Home Improvement stores) installed, apply a generous amount of mastic at the joint, embed the cant strip, cover cant strip with mastic spreading the mastic at least 4" onto the deck and 4" onto the structure. Then embed roof mesh over cant strip(see the Mastic Product Page for Cant Strip explanation) and extending onto deck and onto the structure. So that the cant strip, deck and wall are covered by the mesh and mastic. Then apply final coat of mastic over the entire roof mesh surface.
We recommend you do this for the edges or any joints and penetrations also. Posts should have suitable pitch pockets that you flash to the deck with the mastic and mesh, then fill the pocket void with spray foam and then coat the top of foam with the waterproof base coat. Now you have flexible and waterproof joints. Allow mastic to dry for 24-48 hrs(thicker applications may take longer to fully cure).
Once the mastic has completely dried, it should be hard to the touch, you can now apply the first coat of the waterproof base coat. This is is easily done with a good quality 3/8" nap roller. Be sure to cover the entire surface including all areas with mastic. Allow first coat to dry 24hrs and then apply the second coat. Be sure to coat under any overhangs.
Do not apply if rain is forecasted within 24 hrs or if temperature is below 45 degrees.
Coverage is 100 SF/gal and two coats should be applied and each kit has enough to do two coats.
Allow 48 hrs for dry time and then two coats of ArmorTop can be applied. Your kit has enough ArmorTop for two coats.
IT'S ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA IF POSSIBLE TO DO A GARDEN HOSE TEST OF THE ROOF PRIOR TO APPLYING THE FINAL ARMORTOP DECK COATING. IF GOING OVER CERAMIC OR PORCELAIN TILES YOU FIRST MUST PRIME THE TILES WITH OUR BONDING PRIMER PRIOR TO APPLYING THE WATERPROOF BASE COAT.
